Young Authors’ Writing Camp/Island Writers’ Workshop

Who can join?

Six different camp sessions are open to 25 students each in June 2017. The Elementary School Camp is for children entering Grades 3-5. Middle School Camp is for children entering Grades 6-8. The Island Writers’ Workshop is for High School students entering Grades 9-12. Campers may register for one or both camps in their age-group.

How much does it cost?

Open registration for camps will begin on April 1st, 2017. Camp Fees are $185 per camp and increase to $200 on June 1st.

When does camp start?

Elementary School Camp Session 1:
June 12 to June 23 - 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Elementary School Camp Session 2: 
June 12 to June 23 - 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Middle School Camp Session 1:
Session 1: A focus on Graphic Novels
June 19 to June 23 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Middle School Camp  Session 2: 
June 26 to June 30 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Session 2: A study of Poetry composition and performance.  

 
Writers Island Workshop Session 1:
June 19 to June 23 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
Session 1: A study of Music, Plays, Visual Art, Observation of Life, and writing as an art form.  Designed to be an awakening as to how special writing is and why we write.
Writers Island Workshop Session 2:
June 26 to June 30 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
Session 2: A study of Memoirs, Vignettes, and Poetry, with the focus on self-awareness; a celebration of the young author!

Open Mic Events @ Barnes & Noble on June 24th & July 1st.

Where are camps held?

Elementary and Middle School Camps meet in TAMUCC Early Childhood Development Center.

Island Writers’ Workshops meet on the TAMUCC O'Connor Building, Room 135.
